Securing Europe Against Natural Disasters
On today’s report by the European Environment Agency, Jutta Paulus, environmental spokesperson for the Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament, states:
“The current report, describing Europe as ‘overheated and underprepared’, is another wake-up call: Europe is under pressure. Droughts, water shortages, floods, and extreme heat are already threatening people, infrastructure, and homelands.
It is not enough to merely react to natural disasters – we must finally take preventive action. Our cities, villages, fields, and rivers need protection and security. That is why a binding EU law on adaptation to natural disasters is urgently needed. Such a law could set clear rules, assess risks, and make strategies binding. Only in this way can we ensure safe living conditions, a stable economy, and a natural environment that protects us.”
