Chemieindustrie: “Zukunftspakete statt Rettungsringe”

Zum morgen in Antwerpen stattfindenden Chemiegipfel, erklärt Jutta Paulus, umweltpolitische Sprecherin der Fraktion Die Grünen/EFA im Europäischen Parlament:

„Die europäische Chemieindustrie hat sich zu lange auf alten Geschäftsmodellen wie billiger fossiler Energie und abgeschriebenen Anlagen ausgeruht, während Konkurrenten in Asien moderne, effiziente Chemieparks bauen. Damit hat sich die Chemieindustrie selbst in die Krise geschlafen. Für mich ist klar: Staatliche Unterstützung darf es nur geben, wenn sie Innovationen und umweltfreundliche Technologien vorantreibt und festschreibt. Es braucht jetzt Zukunftspakete für eine nachhaltige Chemie und keine Rettungsringe für Oldtimer! Nur so sichern wir unsere europäischen Arbeitsplätze und Europas Wettbewerbsfähigkeit in einer globalisierten Welt.“

Chemical Industry: “Future Packages, Not Lifebuoys for Oldtimers”

Ahead of tomorrow’s Chemical Summit in Antwerp, Jutta Paulus, The Greens/EFA environmental spokesperson in the European Parliament, states:

„The European chemical industry has relied for too long on the business model of producing on amortized facilities with cheap fossil energy. Meanwhile competitors in Asia have built modern, efficient chemical parks. This is how our industry has slept itself into a crisis. My demand: state support should only be provided for rebuilding with innovation and decarbonisation. We need a future package for sustainable chemistry, not lifebuoys for oldtimers! This is the only way in which can we secure European jobs and maintain Europe’s competitiveness in a globalized world.”
